Email alerts are not sent until I login

I logged in to a website we are working on and then immediately received two email alerts from Wordfence.

One alert notified me of two plugins that require updating (but had been outdated for nearly a week) the other was for Wordfence activity.

I assume there is something odd happening here since the plugin updates had been available for 6 days.

If we cannot receive email alerts until someone logs in that defeats the purpose of email alerts! I use this plugin on other sites as well but have not seen this sort of thing before.

Any assistance on the matter is greatly appreciated.
