We’ve used three other payment plugins in the past, and the email address has always been optional. We place phone orders for our customers. Some of our customers don’t have or don’t want to use an email address. When placing the order, it fails with this message:

Square Payment Failed (Status code INVALID_EMAIL_ADDRESS: Buyer email address is not valid) Order status changed from Pending payment to Failed.

Is it possible to make the email address optional? If I go into my Square dashboard, I can manually delete the email address in there. But when placing the order using the Woocommerce Plugin, email is required.

    Hi @korvak!

Sorry about the delay on this!

You can try using an extension like Conditional Checkout Fields for WooCommerce to attempt doing the email address optional and this out again.

Another workaround, will be allowing the guest accounts on your WooCommerce settings, here is more information about that.

I already have guest checkout enabled. Actually, the order goes through just fine. It’s just that when you try to complete the payment, the Square plugin gives an error message if the user did not have an email address associated with the order:

Square Payment Failed (Status code INVALID_EMAIL_ADDRESS: Buyer email address is not valid) Order status changed from Pending payment to Failed.

    Hey @korvak,

We don’t currently have support for removing the email address from the checkout forum for Square transactions. You’re welcome to post a suggestion for changing this on the Ideas Board.

The developers do check this to see what ideas are popular when deciding what features to add.

That said, if you definitely need this feature, you may want to hire someone to modify the Square extension to allow this to work. If you need a developer, there are freelance ones at Codeable who would be happy to help.
