  • Hi All,

I’am new to this forum, so in advance sorry if I place my message in the wrong folder.

I have issues with “JavaScript and CSS block content above the fold””

I was able to delete almost all errors (Google pagespeed insights) with W3 Total cache and Autoptimize. But there is still 1 error remaining. Can someone please help me to get rit of this message? If you know the answer, please be as precise as possible, i am still a little bit a Noob. So if I need to paste codes somewhere, please tell me how I can get to that place…

@martini0; you seem to be using both W3TC’s minification features and Autoptimize at the same time. disable all minification in W3TC and AO should pick up all CSS.

    Hi Frank,

Thanks for your reply. It worked partly, the last error message is now away. However, I get now an “old” error message back about the “google font”…ato%3A300%2C400%2C700%2C900&subset=latin

I am using Lato font. You know how to fix this?

ps. why is it, that when i test with: https instead of http, it is always faster? edit: I see now, it has something to do with not taking into account the server response time?

you could “remove google font” in AO or try the “google webfont optimizer”-plugin.

    Hi Frank,

Wow kudos to you! It works!

    Thanks a lot.

I am aware that it’s possible to do with “Critical Path CSS Generator – by Jonas Ohlsson”. but I am wondering, is there a script or something that makes the whole things automated.

    don’t think so @cuta

can you add that feature to autoptimize? If it’s not possible with the free version,I am willing to purchase it, because I feel like that feature is really important for improving the overall page speed in big number.

well, there currently is an autoptimize “power-up” which allows you to create rules for different critCSS to be applied under different conditions, but that still requires (some) manual work. a fully automated solution (which has some draw-backs vs. the current “power-up”) will probably follow at a later date. but all of that is out of scope of AO proper 😉

Yeah I saw that one, but I don’t think it’s worth to pay 2 pounds in each month to generate css files. it’s like 24 pounds at end of the year, and after 5 years later we already paid 120 pounds. that’s a lot of money for my small blog. if it’s like one time fee under 10 USD, then I am more than happy to pay it. beside I prefer something that can be used within the server. yeah I understand we still have to manually configure the settings in function.php file, but that’s just one time thing. I have already done it, and stored the generated css files in child theme directory, so if there is a mechanism to update that files automatically whenever the css files are changed or at a given rate then that would be an awesome thing.

I’m getting this error when i do the Google PageSpeed tool, and the two Javascript files it’s telling me are causing issues are: and

I’m using Autoptimize and since these look like google issues, WP Google Maps.

How can I eliminate this error?

what is the error you see?

Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content

It seems to me like the page is trying to load the javascript for the map right away, when it’s not needed until a user goes to a separate page.

then simply take the scripts to the footer. the problem will be solved 🙂 that error is caused when the scripts/css are loaded in the header. when they are loaded in the header, it blocks the normal flow of the page loading, and thus lead to render blocking error.
