    Hi there,

since a short time, I have problem with the Elementor visual editor. It doesn’t show the icons and the text. And I cannot place the cursor there. In older Websites of me (also updated to the latest versions) I have no problems.

To check it, I installed a complete fresh installation, inkl. fresh database, and added just the Elementor Plugin. But same problem here.

    Anybody any idea?

    Thanks in advance
    Michael

    Hi,

this is the link to the 100% fresh testsite, just with the Elementor plugin.
    https://www.idamarhills.com/wp-2hills/

This is the link to the project site.

Last one is still under construction, first one i just set up in order to have a clean installation without any further plugins.

    Hi,

To troubleshoot the issue try this guideline:
Make sure you use the most updated versions of Elementor, WordPress & your theme. Sometimes it isn’t apparent that there is an update available. Go to Dashboard > Updates and click the Check Again button to be sure. (Make sure to back up your site).

Clear all cache: your browser’s cache, and other plugins’ cache.
If the issue persists, deactivate all plugins apart from Elementor. If this helps, reactivate them one by one to find the culprit.
If it didn’t help, switch your theme (temporarily) to a default WordPress theme such as Twenty Sixteen and see if it makes any difference.

    Hi,
thanks for you reply. Just to clearify, the problem exists in a 100% fresh and clean installation of Version WP 6.1.1, only with fresh and clean Elementor as a plugin (I also deleted Akismet, that comes by default). I first used the default theme “Twenty Twenty Three”, that comes with this fresh installation by default.
Again: I downloaded this system brandnew from the wordpress-site (wordpress.org).

    After that, I …
….switched to Twenty Twenty Two, an error message appears “Sorry, the content area was not found in your page. You must call “the_content” function in your template …. “, when trying to edit a post via Elementor.
… than switched to Twenty Twenty One, and got the same situation as Twenty Twenty Three.
No Visual Editor Icons, no text display, not possibility to place the cursor.
If you want to, I can send you an Admin-Login via Mail to check. So other plugins are NOT involved. Just WordPress and Elementor

Here a video of the admin section

    Best regards

    Hi,

It seems like the cause of this issue is an incompatible theme.

Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Switch to a compatible theme, like the Hello theme.
    2. Try to edit again. If you can edit, the previous theme is the culprit.
    3. Find an Elementor-compatible theme that answers your needs.

Hi, I just tried your “Hello Elementor Theme”. It doesn not work either.

    Hi,

Kindly check the Console from Elementor Editor. You can open it by collapsing the Widgets panel and then inspecting the page. Look for any server errors referencing blocked or not found files. Also, I suggest you contact their hosting provider. If this happens to sites hosted on the same server, there could be some issues with the server setup.

    Hi there @lianakap @michaelwieden

I have exaclty the same problem. I am using a fresh WP install and the Hello theme. How on earth did you fix this? I have disabled all plugins and it is not that. I very much doubt it has something to do with our server as we run a number of wordpress ecommerce sites and no issue. Also we have plenty of server resources. Can anyone assist?

    Many thanks

    Hi @dav74 @lianakap,

I made it. The following files did not come with the latest wordpress version:
    content.inline.min.css
    content.min.css
    skin.min.css

These files are missing in the following folder:

    http://www.yourpage.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/skins/lightgray/

I took them from an older wordpress version, and copied in the folder mentioned above, and … voilà … it works!

The tricky thing: If you update an older version, the problem doesn’t occur, because the older version contains the files, and the update doesn’t delete them.
But the fresh wordpress version as you can download it from the wordpress page, doesn’t contain these files. As I see, that’s the reason why it works in existing projects.

So actually Elementor plugin shows, that it works with the current version of WordPress. It might be a good idea to check compatibility not just with updated wordpress-installations, but also with fresh ones.

    Hope it helps!

Ok .. I figured out some crazy things. When I download a fresh installation from wordpress, these files are in the pack. But after I uploaded the pack via Filezilla they disappear, they are not in the file anymore. I tried it two times, and every time the same effect.

    So … i’m speechless …

    Hi @michaelwieden

Many thanks for your reply. I did the same thing. I did a manual installation of WordPress via FTP (having downloaded the latest version from their site) and I encountered this problem where the visual text editor does not work.

I then did a new WP install and automated it via my hosting, and everything works 100% correctly. So yes you’re right. Something is breaking during the manual install. Very strange.
