When saving a page in Elementor after navigating to it via the Elementor’s top-bar page selector, the destination page’s slug gets overwritten incorrectly (only while Rank Math is active).Steps to reproduce

    1. Start editing Page A with Elementor (slug: page-a).
    2. Use Elementor’s top bar page selector to jump to “Page B” (original slug: page-b)
    3. Save Page B (even without modifications)

    Result

Page B’s slug changes to page-a-2 (or similar variant).

    Expected behavior

    Slugs remain unchanged

    Environment

    • WordPress 6.8
    • Elementor 3.28.3
    • RankMath 1.0.242
    • PHP 8.1.32
    • Hello Elementor theme 3.3.0

Oh, I see. As the ticket is marked as “resolved”, I concluded the issue must be fixed already. Thank you for clarifying and I will keep an eye on this post. 🙂

I just experienced the same problems as OP while using Elementor to edit several pages when RankMath was active. My main slugs were automatically changed from /contacts, /overview/, and /services/ to slugs with “contacts-2-2-3/” and such.

How may I remove these redirections so I may use my main (unchanged) slugs while preserving all the edits that now appear at the redirection url?

I initially contacted my host and its AI chat support said to deactivate (1) RankMath, then (2) go into .htaccess on the server and remove any redirections related to the pages I mentioned. I will probably do this.

However, is there any workaround so I may preserve all the edits that are now showing at, and using these new slugs? May I just go into RankMath and remove the redirections without losing my most recent edits? My host provider (again the AI chat) wrote that there is a high risk of losing my most recent edits if I just use RankMath’s option to remove those redirections.

Does RankMath have a preferred temporary work-around for users so they may use their original slugs/urls and retain all the recent edits one may have made?

It appears I’ll ultimately need to de-activate RankMath until the developers find a fix, but I want to at least restore my base slugs and retain the edits.

    Any feedback is welcome.

Since this thread is marked as resolved, I will post my question as a new thread — because the issue is still open and active.

I am wondering too, why this ticket is marked as resolved, whilst the problem is still persisting.

Is there any timeframe for fixing it? Thank you in advance.

So glad to have found this thread, as this issue has been causing me MAJOR issues with a number of clients for some time now.

From unhappy client’s reporting website issues, to google ads campaigns being suspended due to broken links directly as a result of this issue.

At least now I know the cause now and can actively prevent it using workarounds, but please fix ASAP! 🙏🏻

    Hello again @rankmathsupport

As another 4 weeks have passed, I wanted to ask if there is an update on the ETA of this issue, as I could not see anything in the changelog yet? Clients keep complaining, so it would be really great to get this resolved.

    Thank you in advance.

Dont think this fixes the issue, it still happens.
Not working, still rewriting slugs on its own still.

The update they think fixed this issue was released over 19 days ago.
