Just been testing all my websites with PHP 8.x and found that the only one having Elementor installed and activated, which is also the only one with AudioTheme’s Wayfarer theme ([ redundant link removed ]) breaks. I have also contacted AudioTheme about this issue as it seems to be a conflict between the two.

When using version PHP 7.4.32 everything on the site is working fine.

When tested on PHP 8.x (8.1.11 or 8.0.24) ANY pages where I have NOT used Elementor (for example on my POSTS and some other PAGES) fail with the error “There has been a critical error on this website.” whilst the few pages created with Elementor or using the Wayfarer theme capabilities continue to work.

By disabling Elementor, everything works as expected, with the Elementor pages obviously displaying the underlying code. Disabling/activating all other site specific plugins (except theme-related ones) make no difference. All the other (non-theme) plugins are also in use across my two sites which work fine with PHP 8.x.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,

Can you disable all your experiments, please?
except for the Flex Box experiment (If you have it on your site)
    https://elementor.com/help/elementor-experiments
If it solves the issue, reactivate them one by one to find the culprit.

Please make sure that all of your Plug-ins and Theme are updated.
Sometimes it isn’t obvious that there is a plugin update available. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Updates and click the Check Again button to be sure.

Please also regenerate the CSS via Elementor > Tools > Regenerate CSS on your WordPress Dashboard,

then make sure that you are clear:
your WordPress cache (your WordPress plugin if you have one), your server cache (if
you have one. In this case, you can contact your hosting provider).

Please deactivate all your plugins besides Elementor and see if it helps. If it solves the issue, reactivate them one by one to find the culprit. If it didn’t help, switch your theme (temporarily) and see if it makes any difference.

OK, was not aware of the experiments and had not been using any.

Have tested as requested and found that this problem is being caused by the Landing Pages experimental feature – with all others active and this one Inactive, the non-Elementor pages are working fine in PHP 8.1.12. As soon as I switch this feature back on, even if all the others are off, then non-Elementor pages break again immediately.

Nice finding amid the sea of Experiments defaulted to Active.

I wonder if it’s a problem to be corrected in Elementor or Wayfarer though (corrected so that others don’t have to find this obscure workaround).

    Hi,

Elementor Experiments is a way for Elementor users, if they choose, to test and help shape new features before they are released. Future experiments might include widget enhancements, editor settings and functions, or even WordPress backend functionality.

I had also fed back the issue to the wayfarer team. I will try to add this additional info for them, so that they also have all the info.
