Effectively using blogs to build content (3 posts)

I wasn't sure this is the appropriate department to post this thread. This is a general question about blogging.

I am wondering if using a blog to build effective search engine content is a good viable long-term alternative to the more traditional manual writing and uploading of new pages, if my goal is to boost targeted traffic from the search engines. I have found that writing in new content to WP seems easier, but maybe this is an illusion. I do feel more motivated about writing new posts or pages to wordpress, then composing it on a static html page then uploading it to my site via FTP.

Blogs like any other new technique is unfortunately abused by some, so I'm wondering at what point they may lose their effectiveness on Google and Yahoo.

I'm just wondering if blogging falls victim to spammers who abuse it as a spam tool, that could hurt legitimate bloggers when google and yahoo starts cracking down on them. Up until last summer, I was using a program called "Rankingpower" with fairly good success on Yahoo until Yahoo and Google eventually started banning sites for using it. I'm just now experimenting with blogging.
