    Hello,

My blog is targeted towards university students and academics, and therefore the majority of the people who would want to subscribe are using email addresses ending in .edu. Unfortunately, these addresses don’t seem to be working when users try to subscribe. Can this be fixed?

What version of PHP are you using. This is the second report of this type I’ve seen but I am unable to reproduce this issue myself.

    PHP version 7.2

The other possibility is that the reverse DNS check is failing in validating the emails, this can be bypassed though, try adding the following to a custom plugin or the themes functions.php file:

    add_filter( 's2_validate_email_with_dns', '__return_false' );

I reworked the email validation a little in my testing code – not sure it will help you but if you want to give it a try it’s here

Hi @mattyrob I’ll give this a try thanks.

@mattyrob please see the response from my IT team:

‘It appears that line of code doesn’t work with the version (10.30.1) of the plugin that is currently available on the WordPress repository.

I can see from some online forums there is a version 10.31 available for direct download but the vendor hasn’t made this available in WordPress yet. It might be worth contacting them regarding why this isn’t available.’

Should I wait until the new version is released to see if this resolves the issue?

Apologies, I have got lost in the differences between released and development code.

If you try the current development code from the github link above or directly from here:
    https://github.com/mattyrob/subscribe2/archive/master.zip

Hopefully the filter code above will work, this fixes your issue I’ll push for a formal release.

Hi @mattyrob unfortunately, I am not allowed to upload developmental code to our WordPress instance due to cybersecurity policies for my workplace. I will need to wait until the new release in order to see if this works. Apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you for trying to help!

I suppose I can partly understand that policy but surely it’s risky not patching security flaws rapidly (not that this is a security flaw).

I’ll look to do some more testing and push a release myself and then try to co-ordinate a release on here.

I’ve pushed a release. I’ve emailed lead for the WordPress repository code to be considered for updating too.

10.31 is available via the WordPress plugin repository now. Please give that a try and let me know if it resolves your issues.

@mattyrob thank you. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have resolved the issue, but I believe our tech guys have found a workaround. Thanks for all your help.

If there is anything your tech guys can share that would improve Subscribe2 to avoid this issue occurring in the first place we’d be happy to hear anything they want to share.

Thanks @mattyrob apparently there was a mix of issues going on, so nothing specific at this time. Thanks again for your help.
