    Good day,

Recently, (at some point in December) editors on our site have been unable to save edits in tables. New tables can be created, and tables can be imported and exported, but only administrators can actually properly save edits. Here’s a short recorded video that may be useful in debugging describing the issue: https://youtu.be/OATdF9y2-wc. The account in this demonstration only has one role, Editor. Users with the administrator role do not have this issue, and changes can be saved successfully with that role.

Since TablePress itself hasn’t updated, it’s possible some other plugin did and broke some kind of permissions TablePress depended on. In PublishPress Capabilities, a role editor plugin, I can see the Editor role has access to the following capabilities that look TablePress-ish:
    tablepress_access_about_screen
    tablepress_access_options_screen
    tablepress_add_tables
    tablepress_copy_tables
    tablepress_delete_tables
    tablepress_edit_tables
    tablepress_export_tables
    tablepress_import_tables
    tablepress_list_tables

There is one capability not given, tablepress_edit_options, but it didn’t solve my problem even when I gave the Editor role that capability.

Any advice is appreciated. I can provide admin credentials if that would help in debugging the issue.

    Kind regards,

    Leonard Craft

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

I received a very similar report earlier today, at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/tablepress-only-i-cant-save-table-content/
Is this about the same site? If so, can you please get in touch by email (see my reply in that thread). I’m also already in touch with Peter, but as you seem be the admin, you should probably be involved in the process πŸ™‚ Thanks!

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Tobias,

No, I am unaffiliated with Peter. It does sound like a similar issue, but we are completely independent. I should have checked the surrounding topics! I will follow up with you via email.

    Kind regards,

    Leonard Craft

Update: Tobias helped me identify that it seems that a third-party plugin (PublishPress Revisions) was causing the issue. Apparently some update on November 30 broke things. Disabling the PublishPress Revisions plugin fixed the issue.

    Many thanks Tobias!

    Hi,

no problem, you are very welcome! πŸ™‚ Good to hear that this helped!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress here in the plugin directory. Thanks!

@tobiasbg I am also having this issue with tablepress/publishpress revisions.

I have opened a support ticket with publishpress and will update you here on what is found.

It looks like revisions is intercepting the save action in tablepress, and creating the saved data as a revision instead of a tablepress_table.

    Hi,

thanks for that! Yes, it looks like PublishPress Revisions is the cause here, I’ve had two reports over the last few days where that was the case.

    Hi all –

Just checking if anyone was able to resolve this issue, as I have also run into it.

    Thanks-

    Hi Mark,

unless PublishPress Revisions fixes this, I don’t see what we can do here. Sorry.
Have you reported this to them as well? Maybe it will help them to change the priority of working on a fix.

    Regards,
    Tobias

@tobiasbg @fabrizim Just an update – PublishPress have told me they have a fix which will be shipping in the next release.

I’m asking for a release candidate now so I can confirm and will get back to you.

@tobiasbg @tobiasbg @fabrizim @leonardcraft – this is fixed in the most recent version of the revisions plugin.

@twentyzerotwo – Great – thanks for following up!
