Support » Fixing WordPress » Editor missing (1and1) (SmallBiz theme)

  • I have read as many posts as I can on the Missing Editor and I have tried the follow suggestions to restore the Editor.

    1. Disabled all plug-ins. Cleared browser cache. No joy. Re-enabled all plug-ins. Cleared browser cache. No joy.
    2. Reinstalled theme. Cleared browser cache. No joy.
    3. Reinstalled WP (4.3.1). Cleared browser cache. No joy.
    4. Tried different browser. Cleared browser cache. No joy.
    5. Added define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, false); to wp-config.php and uploaded to my site. That line (with “true” instead of “false”) was not previously present. Cleared browser cache. No joy.
    6. Sang a happy tune. Cleared browser cache. No joy.

I’m out of ideas. Do you have any?

    Thanks in advance.

  • One troubleshooting item you missed, although I will have to add ‘sing a happy tune’ to my own list, is to try one of the default WP twenty-something themes with all plugins deactivated 🙂

Ah, yes. I did miss that one.

So, let’s add it to the list of ones that are No Joy!

Tried a 20-something and deactivates all plugins, cleared my cache, and still no Editor.

Have I stumped everyone? I’m hoping not.

My worst fear are realized. You are stumped.

I’m going to dog pile onto this even though I have a different host and theme. This is maddening to say the least. I have even tried a different Editor plug-in with no joy.

This seems to have stumped the band indeed…

Well… (sheepishly he says), turns out that I modified the wrong wp-config.php file. WHen I got the right file and changed “true” to “false” the Editor came back.

So, the band was NOT stumped!

Thanks for being there for me. I will be there for you now!

Sigh… still no joy. Clearing my browser cache is getting old…

    Let’s back up a bit 🙂

    – was the editor EVER working?
    – if so, do you recall what you did to the site when it stopped working?

What you may want to try is:

    – remove that disallow entry from your wp-config file
    – make a backup of the site, files and database … always a good idea 🙂
    – download a fresh WP Zip, un-Zip it, and upload the wp-includes folder after FIRST deleting the existing one.

Yes, it was working. When did it quit? Sometime after 09/07/2015. There have been a few updates since then, including 4.3.1. I had thought perhaps it was the theme, so I switched themes and the issue is still there.

I did try uploading (overwriting) the wp-includes/tinymce, so I will go back and trying replacing the entire wp-include folder after I delete the disallow entry.

It’s very possible that you’re not facing the same issue, lesliekirk. You’re more likely to receive support if you create your own thread https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting#postform

Thanks Andrew, I have started a new post.
