# Editor keeps adding styling automatically

 * Hi,
 * Very often when I save a post as draft, publish it or update it, the editor automatically
   adds styling by itself.
    The styling added is usually the same: <span style=”
   font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.4em;”></span>
 * Why is this? It’s very annoying because I often schedule my posts to be published,
   but I can never be sure if they will get published the way I want them to be 
   published as styling is automatically added…

 * PS Yes, I do switch between the visual and the text editor but frankly I don’t
   think this should cause any problems, otherwise, why is there an option to switch
   between the two?

 * Are you writing your posts in other software (Word, Google Docs, etc.) then copying
   and pasting into the visual editor? If so, then that software is adding the style
   elements. Try pasting into the text editor instead, to strip those elements, 
   then styling the post how you want it.

 * Nopes, it happens when I work directly in the editor.
 * For instance I had a post that was already published. When editing it I removed
   an h2-subtitle and used ‘delete’ to move the paragraph below up. When saved that
   paragraph was suddenly wrapped in the aforementioned span tag.

 * Sounds like maybe your WP theme is trying to style the posts for you.

 * I’ve already checked with my theme support and they say it’s totally unrelated
   to them…
 * I know see the span tags have even been added in between words. I really don’t
   understand it. I’m going through more than 300 posts right now to manually correct
   those affected.
    Not cool at all.

 * Can confirm. This has been happening for a while on multiple sites (all currently
   running 3.8.2 or higher). Editor randomly wraps certain text with:
 * `<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"></span>`
 * I haven’t been able to track down when exactly it adds these tags, but I always
   paste plain text into the Text Editor and then switch to Visual to edit/format.
   When I switch back to Text to adjust something, I find the new `<span>` tags 
   added.
