  • Am I allowed to edit anything on a template of someone else’s? Are there limitations in to what I can and cannot edit, especially if I am going to give some templates away on my forums as recommended templates? Or can I edit anything as long as the credits are included. Please help me to understand this…Thanks!

  • That would depend on the template, the Copyright and the Lisence Agreement with each template.

Well, how do i know? Is there something I can reference?
The bottom line is, I am basically changing meta tags and maybe seleting a calendar and some of the site buttons. Also, removing some unneccesary links on the side. I am not removing any credits to the author or anything like that. Please advise.

By the way, these are the themes I am looking at:

    Blue Bye YOu
    Clean Breeze
    Gentle Calm
    Gespa 2
    North Web Coders
    Ornage Sky
    Plain Vanilla
    Random Image
    RDC Theme
    Scam City
    Sharepointe Like

Within the style.css file of each theme, there should be indication of the licence. And if you still have any doubt, contact the theme author, find out what they would like to have done.

    What if it is GPL?

If it’s GPL > read the text of the GPL license that came with the WP package when you’ve donwloaded WordPress.

Are there restrictions on templates into just redistributing if I don’t make any changes?

Wouldn’t be easier if you read the paragraph 1. and 2. of the license?
(and I think you are talking about themes not templates 🙂

No, quite honestly it would be easier if you just answered the question. Now, forget about GPL…what about THEMES in general aside from GPL?

We really can’t give you a definitive answer. There are nearly 400 themes for wordpress, and each author may have conditions of hisser own for use, redistribution etc.

You should probably decide which themes you have thoughts of using in a particular way, then email each theme’s author.

And please don’t get nasty with the volunteers here. NO ONE has to answer your question….

I wasn’t getting nasty. I really just was looking for an answer like you just gave me so please don’t take what I said personally. I wanted someone to tell me what I need to know so I can proceed. With that said, thank you for your help! I appreciate it and will look into what I need to to pursue this matter!!!
