Support » Themes and Templates » editing sidebar.php for links call

  • Hi all,

I’ve tried adding code, removing code, moving code. But I know I don’t know enough and I am not getting what I want. I want to have my links appear on every page’s sidebar. I have found the “if page is home” but simply removing that and even adding

doesn’t do the trick. At best it leaves a scrunched set of out of order links under the “Categories” heading (with extra >> thrown in above the links). At worst, (without the
etc) I get an error parsing message and the home page doesn’t load.

Obviously I don’t know this code well enough. Can someone help?

    Thank you!

  • If you have single.php, archive.php, page.php, etc, call the following to get the sidebar.

    <?php get_sidebar(); ?>

    Basically, copy what index.php has.

Ah, so you mean I put that call into each of them individually rather than try to just get the links called via the sidebar itself? But I don’t understand. If the sidebar only brings up links on the front page, how does calling the sidebar get links onto all pages.

I think I am becoming more and more confused, but I’ll try that.

    Thank you.

Wait a second. I was most likely wrong. Paste your original sidebar.php here:

I tried alphoide’s suggestion. It didn’t work. I clicked on one of the posts and when it came up it did not show my links. I don’t have single.php, by the way.

    Any other thoughts? Thanks!

    See above.

Ok, I’ve pasted into pastebin. Very cool tool it looks like.

    What’s next?

Next time give us the link
Anyhow, delete lines 55 and 67

Sorry about that. I have never used a collaborative debugger before!

Erm… now I’m getting a “Parse error: parse error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/vener/public_html/beadblog/wp-content/themes/vener-art/sidebar.php on line 52”

That’s odd because the only thing on line 52 is and it comes before the stuff I deleted!

Got it! I found something that had been accidently deleted! Thanks alphaoide! Now I can go to bed and work on this some more on later! You’re terrific! Thanks again!
