Editing inner pages locally with child theme

  • I am trying to edit the html of each individual page of my site with a child theme. What I’ve done is created a .php file in my child theme folder with the page-[slug] prefix. But, when I go to that page locally it doesn’t have the same content as it does in that created file, it has default content in there. So, I am assuming that my child theme isn’t overriding the default content.

I am not sure what steps to take into consideration.

Did you remember to apply these new page templates to the relevant new pages?

are you talking about page attributes > default template?

Yes. You need to apply your page templates via that dropdown.

well, I don’t see anything in that drop down that is specific to my child theme. I assumed that default template meant my child theme. What should I see in there?

Have you reviewed custom page templates?

Ok, I have created a page template. got it into that drop down and have been able to edit it locally. Let me ask you this, do I go through this process for each page? For example is it best practice to create an ‘about us’ template and apply it to the ‘about us’ page then create a ‘gallery’ page template and apply that to the gallery page etc.
