Support » Installing WordPress » editing codex – don’t use MYSQL password?

  • I am installing the latest version of WordPress and following the instructions on where it reads at the top:

    WARNING: Before editing this page

Please, do not edit this Codex Page with the settings for your own server as you are giving the world access to your website’s MySQL password, and will not make your install work. Thanks.

Then it goes on to tell you that you need to enter your password in the config file. This is very confusing. Can someone please help?

  • that is just a warning you can ignore.
Basically, anyone can edit the codex to update it or replace outdated stuff, whatever. That warning is for anyone going to edit the codex itself not to be dumb. Evidently it’s happened before. :>)
