• Hello

I want to edit my 404 error page to make it more user friendly to visitors.
The theme I’m using is weaver 2.2.6

You can see 404 error page I have at the moment here

    – I went into my editor
    – selected weaver as the theme
    – opened the 404.php file

[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. Please use the pastebin]

Any ideas why this is happening?
I tried editing both files but no changes were seen on the site.

Your help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jenny

    Hi sorry for not using the pastebin before;

here is the code for the weaver 404.php file
    http://pastebin.com/eFgVzAz9

but the text that appears on my website 404 error page and that of the weaver 404.php is different

so i went into the twenty ten theme 404.php file
    http://pastebin.com/v57TPnwZ

and this is the text that shows on my website’s 404 error

editing either of these files makes no difference….
    thanks

Editing the Weaver 404 file should do the trick. I’m not sure why you are not seeing your changes at all. Perhaps you have some caching enabled or you’re not saving the code after editing? just a thought.

What’s strange is the text in the weaver 404.php file is not what shows up on my site’s 404 error page

Try disabling the plugins that you have running and see if the weaver text displays?

Is it possible that you have a weaver child theme?

no I don’t but I was thinking of setting one up as I’ve read somewhere that setting a child theme for a 404 page would be a good idea
