• I updated to v 3.5 and now the edit window is extremely long and when I enter text in a table it bounces to another location in the table. I’ve tried resizing the window, but it snaps back to the long size. My scrolling finger is worn out.

  • Deleting the cookies did not work. But I deleted the old user name and transferred posts then I added my old user name back and transferred posts so that now I am back where I started and my edit window is normal size.

All is good. My problem is fixed. Many thanks for all the help.

Glad to hear that the problem is sorted now. Best guess – there was some corruption of the stored preferences in the wp_users database table for that user.

The Edit window is still too long and I suspect it is because the post I use as a template is a very long table. I copy the text (I wish they’d go back to calling it HTML)to a new post daily and fill in the rows with jabber and images.

I’ve tried most of the other suggestions I’ve seen here with no luck so far.

I re-installed the updated version of the Zenlite theme the edit window is still way too long. (The designer didn’t like that I customized his very fine theme and I understand.)

The designer most definitely did. But “he” is a “she” – ie me. 🙂 Nice to hear that you like the theme.

Did you try the new user method that worked for davidresnick? Is your problem limited to just this one post?

I apologize for my seemingly chauvinist assumption, girl!

I created a new user and logged in as that, but the edit window was still way too long.

I mentioned that I use a very long table in my posts. The posts were fine until one day the edit window limited my attempts to resize it. It would allow resizing up to a point, but would snap back to the too long size.

I’m wondering if updating WP caused the problem. I know the update was at around the same time, but can’t remember exactly the sequence of events.

I have not, as yet, deleted the old user name and transferred posts then add my old user name back and transferred posts again as I’m not sure what that means or how to do it. I know how to delete a user name, but the bit about transferring posts confuses me.

I’m not too savvy on WP press yet. I’ve been using Microsoft Front Page for ten years and just recently bit the bullet and joined the modern world.

I’m getting brain drain from this problem and troubleshooting all my other gizmos that don’t work right. I don’t think technology is ready for the masses yet.

No problem. It happens all of the time.

I’m wondering if updating WP caused the problem.

Based on your description, I don’t think so, It could be user-related cookie or database corruption as mentioned previously. Or it just might be a javascript issue. Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of your current version of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

the bit about transferring posts confuses me.

When you try to delete a user who has already publisheds posts, WP asks you what you would like to do with this user’s posts. At this point, you can re-assign the posts to a different user using a dropdown list of all current users that WP will generate automatically.

    Does that help?

Yes it does help. I’ll try your suggestions when my brain recovers in a few days and continuing my endless scroll in the meantime.

While I’ve got you, I have an unrelated request. In the insert media page of Zenlite could you add the file size in addition to the image size? My site is image intensive and size matters (as far as loading goes). A quick look at the file size will help me decide to use a thumbnail or a full size image.

    Thank you

Hmm… that’s really plugin – rather than theme – territory. Or even better, I think it would make an excellent core update for 3.6. I’ll see if I can pitch this to the core devs before work on 3.6 really gets going.

Edit window too long is all better now that WP 3.5.1 has been issued to fix that annoying problem.
