    the settings for the header image size are in functions.php;

    nearly everything else could be adjusted in style.css.

    for more suggestions, please post more details of how you want to change the header.

    Thanks. I want to make the header thinner so it does not take up so much room at the top of the page.

    Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme. Instead create a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

    If it helps, you can download a bare bones Twenty Ten child theme from one of my sites.

    How do I create a child theme. I have followed instructions and created twentyten-child folder at same directory level as TwentyTen, but don’t know how to put or create the style.css. Do I need an FTP client?

    Please see the link to a bare bones Twenty Ten child theme that I gave above. You do not need FTP to use this zipped child theme. Just use Appearance -> Themes -> Add New & upload the zip file.

    Says file could not be uploaded.
    In meantime created an FTP using FileZilla and tried ceating style.css as specified on Child Themes page. File won’t copy across. It is 170mB when created and 0mB when arrives.

    What says where? Both the download from quirm.net and the upload into a WordPress install work perfectly for me.

    When I downloaded from quirm.net I put the zip file onto my computer. Then I opened WP3.2.1, went to Themes/ Install Themes/ Upload browsed and found the zip file on my computer and uploaded. Message I get is ‘The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/pooky2/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2011/08.’

    Oops our web host has just let us know our disk space allocation on the host server is full. Need to address this. Will get back and let you know what happens.

    Got TwentyTen Child as my theme. How do I edit Header to make it less high?

    Something like:

    function my_header_height($height) {
    	$height = 150;
    	return $height;
    }
    add_filter('twentyeleven_header_image_height', 'my_header_height');

    added to the child’s functions.php file should do it. Adjust the height value to suit.

    Thanks worked great
