Some of the thumbnails in my gallery are suboptimally cropped. If I open the menu for an image and select ‘Edit thumb’ I just get an empty preview window. Is this a general bug and is there a workaround?

@coldstreamer – Problems like this can sometimes occur due to a conflict on your site. I’d like to have you try a few things. Please try deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN Gallery plugin(s)?

If this fixes the problem it was likely one of the deactivated plugins causing the issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin (one at a time) and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating the plugins as it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases, it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have now deactivated every plug-in except NextGen and tried to edit the thumbnails in the gallery. As before, the function simply opens a white box with no content. I’ve tried this under Windows and on a Mac, using Firefox, Safari and Chrome. It’s always the same (also for Show Metadata by the way …). An empty white dialog box is shown.
What other info do you need to help me?

    Thanks for your help,

    Andrew

OK. I found a workaround which I can live with. I just set a bigger thumbnail size manually and regenerated them, then used them for the gallery. I deleted the gallery on the page and re-added it. Then the thumbnails worked on the display. But the empty white box for thumbs and meta data remains.

Sorry again for the delay, but I’m getting closer to discovering the cause. I was able to compare the situation on another website (hosted elsewhere) while running on a Windows system and so I could see how the function is supposed to work for the first time. I have checked other websites that I manage, which are also hosted at 1&1 and discovered that it works fine on them! I hadn’t done this so far, because there were no galleries that I needed to modify. So, whatever it is, it’s nothing to do with the Mac/PC, nor is it the web browser (I’ve been through all the settings). It’s definitely something to do with that one particular website hosted at 1&1. From past experience, I can say it will be hard to get support (at this level) from them, but I’ll try. Perhaps a port is blocked, or functionality not available from their platform (bad installation, PHP version, no idea …). Anyway, I’ll contact them and see if they can explain it.
    Best regards

@coldstreamer – Please let us know if there is anything more we can help with and/or send in the Bug Report (if you have, my apologies, we do not have any automated method to connect our help desk with these forums to know if that is the case).

    Thanks!

Closing this issue as it would seem it’s a problem with the provider.
    Thanks for your support!
