Edit product SKUs while orders in processing status

    Hello – I have a few products that need a modification of SKU numbers. These products are in orders that have a status of Processing. The store will change order status to complete after orders are marked shipped in Shipstation. (Shipstation does not track these products). So, what would happen to those orders if we were to modify the SKUs in this moment, then the orders are marked as shipped in Shipstation afterward? Is it the product ID’s or the SKUs that matter for this passing of status between systems?

    Similarly, what is the impact on sales reports in Woocommerce Analytics?

    WooCommerce doesn’t use the SKU as the unique ID, it uses the product ID field. So changing the SKU shouldn’t cause issues. For WooCommerce, this should be about the same as changing the product name. WooCommerce ShipStation Integration also wouldn’t use the SKU to identify products in orders.

    Having said that, we still recommend testing this on your end because there may be other factors at play on your store that we’re unaware of.
