# Edit Permalink Structure

 * I want to have WP update my .htaccess file for me when I Edit Permalink Structure.
   I changed the permision on the .htaccess file to be writable, but for some reason
   WP still gives me this message when I Edit Permalink Structure:
 * You should update your .htaccess now.
 * What am I missing here?

 * I CHMOD it to 766 so Owner, Group and Public could read and write.

 * I am on Apache and the file is in the root of the directory. Eeverything is as
   normal, but it is not working on any of my websites.

 * try putting a copy of the .htaccess file to your blog directory.

 * the blog directory is the root directory.

 * still cant edit it, I am surprised no one else is getting this error.

 * I found out what the issue was here. You have to have a htaccess file in each
   blog direcotry you have, not just the root. It sounds remedial, but at least 
   I know what is going on now.
