• I set up a site thanks to the free [site].wordpress.com promotion. But I can’t seem to figure out how to edit the templates. There’s no option to edit the themes under “presentation” in the dashboard, which is what appears to be the main online way to accomplish this task, if I’m reading the forums correctly.

    Thanks,

    Marc

  • I could be wrong, but I don’t think you get to edit the wp.com templates. I think you can only pick which theme you want to use?

Oh, that would be unfortunate. It’s still a cool offer, but part of the reason I’m using the software is to test it out before converting one of my existing sites. Thanks.

    Marc

Well if you just want to test, then download and install into a different directory. 🙂

If you are using wordpress.com or any of the WordPressMU driven sites, you cannot edit your Themes. If there is a problem with the Theme, contact the host through the Feedback link at the top of your Admin Panels. If you want to add a feature, then you can suggest it, but special features aren’t available yet. They may be soon.

If you want the ability to edit and manipulate WordPress, you got to do as you’ve just been told – buy space from a host and download and install the full version of WordPress, available for free from the DOWNLOAD link at the top of the screen.

Thanks. I hope I’m not coming across as ungrateful. I simply in no way understood that the wordpress.com promotion included this limited functionality.

    Marc

No, you can’t change the look of your template. However, you can always download the Alpha version of WP 1.6 and add that with K2, you have a working version of WP.com 🙂 I can help you a bit with the hosting if you want to.

Hi. Thanks for the offer. I think I’m just going to take use this as nudge to finally install WP in a directory on one of my sites, and experiment with the full version there.

    Marc

ozzie123, why are you promoting 1.6 for a newbie when it is clearly stated DO-NOT-USE…?
    It’s an irresponsible advice!

moshu, I’m so sorry if my statement is misunderstood. If he wanted to really feel the essence of WP.com, then I think he might as well go with the combination of WP1.6 and K2 (since those combination give you the closest possible touch of WP.com).

ozzie – I don’t think that’s what he wanted. He wanted to try WP before converting existing sites. It’s not that he wanted the “feel the essence of WP.com” (which is different from WordPress.com) so much as simply try WP.

I think this is his site on wp.com: postOS.wordpress.com and to be honest, you can’t get what you have in WP.com in traditional WP, out of the box. Some must be tweaked and as I stated (hence, it’s my personal opinion), if you want your WP (the original one that is) site work just like WP.com, you have to do some tweaking (and for me it goes with K2 and WP16)

“If you are using wordpress.com or any of the WordPressMU driven sites, you cannot edit your Themes.”

Not totally accurate. You can edit your theme on Blogsome.

“If you are using wordpress.com or any of the WordPressMU driven sites, you cannot edit your Themes”

Actually, you can edit themes on Blogsome.
