What exactly are you trying to make happen in the footer area? Are you trying to change the content or the style, for example?
I am wanting to edit the Powered by WordPress bit and also add a couple of lines of my own text. (happy to keep the credit to the theme designer).
btw thanks for responding so quickly 🙂
No problem, this is really testing my knowledge though!
I will have to get back to you, I’ll try not to be too long!
The code you’ll need to edit is in
colophon.php– you can get to that file in the editor, or if you’re using an FTP program, that’ll work too.
<a href="http://wordpress.org/" rel="generator">Proudly powered by WordPress</a>
from that file and save!
Then if you refresh the page it will only show the credits for the Theme Author.
Have you made a Child Theme or are you editing the main Theme files?
Thank you SO much! Colophon.php was probably the only file I didn’t check. Typical.
You are a life saver. I have spent too many hours trying to solve this – should have asked here first.
Thank you so much, I can’t express my gratitude for not only the time you’ve taken to help me, but for responding so quickly. Much appreciated.
btw just learning this stuff so have no idea what you mean by Child Theme. But will endeavour to educate myself on this.
You’re welcome. Glad I could help!
In short, a Child Theme is a copy of the Main Theme directory. It’s important especially if you’re theme were to be updated (without a child theme, you would have to re-edit the code/CSS).
More info here.
If there’s anything else I can help with, let me know and I will do my best.
hi, i am also new to web building.
i would like to edit the default wordpress footer on my forever themed webpage to say “copywrite mais la 2014”
i also looked into child themes and have no idea where to find those files after much searching.
any assistance is much appreciated!
You should start a new support request really but as you’re here, I will help.
Once you have done that copy the
colophon.phpfrom within the Theme’s Folder ‘forever’ into your child theme, then edit that file to your requirements.
thank you so much for your guidance
Child Theme Configurator into my plug ins.

thank you for your help, i am starting a new topic on the forum…
my apologies, i should have read over the forum etiquette first!
Nah it’s not a problem, just it will show up with 1 post (your original post) and more people will look at it and try to help!
P.s. drop colophon.php into the root of the child theme directory.
In your case it would be in the folder:
