• Hi. I’m trying to set up Ecto for Mac, and have made the suggested edits for accommodating WP 2.1.

But now I’m having trouble getting the Ecto connection to my WP Blog. I’m just not conversant about the settings, and I’d appreciate any advice:

    1. First, it doesn’t automatically recognize WordPress. (I’m told to just select “Other API” and the “Movable Type” from the pulldown menu. Any problems with that?

    2. THen it asks for an Access Point — specifically saying it wants the configuration: mysampledomain.com/blog/ PATH/TO/ . My webhost provider says I need to include mysampledomain.com/blog/wp-includes/xmlrpc.php

Is the “wp-includes” file likely to succeed?

3)Then Ecto asks for “the username and password for your weblog.” (It tells me to “use the same username and password I use to access my online weblog control panel.”

My blog has a name and password. My WordPress setup has a name and password. My Cpanel has a name and password. My webhost registration has a username and password. And a virtually every step, the instructions caution “not to use a name and password used elsewhere in the setup.”

So can anyone tell me which particular “username and password” they’re likely to want?

    4. Next, for access to password-protected material, one clicks on a lock and is asked to enter “User” and “Pass.”

    (My administrator settings for WordPress???)

I’m told that the art of giving good instructions involves “remembering what it was like not to know.” Where experienced users will immediately recognize what’s need for each of these settings, I’m clueless. (But you already knew that!:=)

Any help would be much appreciated!

  • 1) The Movable Type API is fine. Just don’t use the Blogger API. It doesn’t do categories or titles. 🙂
    2) Access point should actually be the directory where you installed the blog. Using your example:

    mysampledomain.com/blog

There should also be a place to put in the RPC address or filename or some sort. That would be:

    /xmlrpc.php

You may have to play with those for a bit. 🙂

    3) The user name and password of your wordpress blog. It’s not trying to log into CPanel or elsewhere.

    Hope this helps,
