  • Once installed…

    1. Click, Create a child theme under the theme you want a child theme for in Appearance > Themes
    2. Give your new child theme a name
    3. Click, Let’s Go!

A folder is added to the WordPress themes folder with a css file in it containing the necessary wording for a child theme, and your new child theme is now included in the Appearance > Themes section.

    Thank you, John P. Bloch!

  • Hi John!

I just sent you an email for this same issue but maybe others will profit from your answer so I’m posting it here.

Your instructions above were so easy to follow. Thank you! I have gone as far as #3 successfully. That is, I have now created a child theme, and I’ve checked it out, it works identical to my live site.

    Now…

I have a pending notification for a “Theme Update” but I’m afraid to just click it not knowing how to incorporate the child theme into the process.

Can you please guide me step by step as to what to do after I’ve created a child theme? — now that I’m ready to click on the “Update Theme” button?

Thank you! Hope to hear from you soon.

    K
