I have WooCommerce integrated in MailPoet. When someone buys a product a welcome e-mail is send from MailPoet, via WooCommerce mails. Also he/she is automatically added to the news letter list (I have overrid the double opt-in).

The e-mails send out are not addressed to the person’s name. Even though in the WooCommerce mail [subscriber:firstname | default:lezer] are included. The mail reverts to the standaard “Dear reader”.

It turns out that the person’s first and last name are not included in this news letter list list.

How can I correct this, so that when someone buys a product and ends up on the general news letter list, that the information given in the shopping card (first name and last name) are added to this list, so that follo up e-mails are personalised?

  • Hi!

What’s the MailPoet version you’re using on your site? This was a bug that was reported and fixed in version 3.60.6 – the First and Last name used in the checkout should be imported when the subscriber is added to your list.

Could you please ensure you’re using the latest version of MailPoet? Please note that after updating, this won’t retroactively fix all those subscribers that are already added to your list, so you’d need to edit them manually and add the first and last names.

    Please let us know.

MailPoet version is 3.60.11 to be upgraded to 3.60.12.

In the mean time the person that is maintaining the site has worked around it. We have had to switch of the double opt-in, which we had already done. Even so, the names were not imported. She has now also change something in the check-out form to make sure that people always tick the box to receive future updates, as that is necessary to send the follow-up mails. She has found a way to work around it, although it is not how it should be.

Unfortunately I cannot add any documents or screenshots to show what she did…..

This is what she wrote, and she has also mailed MailPoet about it:

“Apparently they base the operation of the Mailpoet Woocommerce letters on individual products and do not realize that the letters themselves can be the product. That is why a customer at Checkout should NEVER remove that check mark. Because MailPoet – in accordance with AVG, so it is not illogical – thinks that a customer must indicate whether he / she wants to receive follow-up emails, a customer can remove that tick in the checkout (see bottom image).
You cannot remove that option from the dashboard (see first image below) because then the customer will not be listed at all, and your programme will not work either.

In your case that is not pleasant.

That is why I have adjusted the text, because “do you want to receive my newsletter and offers” does ask to be turned off.

    That’s now this:

I hearby give permission that ToHealth! sends me mails with necessary information and materials (Please leave box ticked).

Your personal data will be used to process your order, to optimalise your experience on this site and for other purposes as described in our privacy policy.”

So for now case is closed, and hopefully MailPoet will find a way to make this work so and you can obey the rules of the AVG. So, basically there are 2 problems to be solved. The possibility to send mails and follow-up mails
