Support » Installing WordPress » E-mail Config — why?

  • I’m installing my first wordpress blog. I’m asked about “E-mail account configuration.” Why is this info necessary? I don’t really know any php, so this might be a dumb question. In perl, I just pipe my message to sendmail and let it go. I’m a bit uncomfortable about entering an e-mail id & password into a file somewhere.
Oh well, for the time being, I’ve made a dummy e-mail account.

I use it so when I forget a password, it tells me ….
(I always have mine set to random though, and use the password manager in firefox)

Podz is talking about the email for admin in admin’s profile. The email address you enter in the general options page is the email address to send administration related messages, such as when someone registers at your weblog.

Thanks, I now see it under the e-mail to blog options too, so it makes more sense to me.
    🙂 Chris
