Make sure that when you upload the themes to your wp-content folder online, they’re in a single folder, just the folder with inside it an images folder and some theme files. Sometimes themes uncompress into a couple or so “secondary downstream” folders….

Thanks that worked fine for the missing stylesheet but not the template..any ideas..again thanks.
Well, “template” as regards wp usually means a “look” that was specific to version 1.2 – I’ve not run into Slinkycat, but a “theme” (as opposed to a “template”) has generally an images folder, a style.css file, and a header.php, index.php, sidebar.php and footer.php file at minimum.
If slinkycat’s not set up like that, then it’s probably the “older” setup. One can make a “template” into a theme. There’s instructions in the codex I think….

Okay…nope it only has style.css, screenshot.jpg and slikycat.gif in the folder..looks like slinkycats cupboard is pretty bare indeed..didn’t work in the 1.2 version either now that I think of it. Much appreciate the advice will give it a look.
As usual, codex won’t let me in, so I can’t give you a better link for “fixing” templates into themes. Sorry! Take a look at podz’s page http://tamba2.org.uk/wordpress, might be something there about it….

I just realised I never posted back to this..did as you said about the folders sometimes being double. For The Dusk 1.1 theme it indeed was a matter of double folders. For the Slinkycat theme I decided not to use it and when I changed servers I fogot about it.
So it wasn’t relsoved.
