Duplicate sub-category slugs in WordPress (7 posts)

So I've run into a bit of an issue with the way I need to structure a particular site using WordPress. Take the following set of URL's for example:

The issue I'm running into is that wordpress will not allow me to duplicate the sub categories downloads, faq and release-notes.

Is there a plugin out there anyone is aware of that will allow duplicate category slugs as long as the category is assigned to a parent?

Try adding category to your url - e.g.
    http://url.com/category/products/product-name/downloads/ etc.

That will let WordPress differentiate these urls from page or posts.

There are plugins that allow you to remove category from the url and still have it resolve as expected.

I should have specified that I am using that plugin. Either way, this will not work.

WordPress will not allow two categories to exist with the same slug, regardless of if they are nested or not.

I'm looking for a plugin that will accomplish this.

It seems that this is "baked-in" to WordPress. The most common solution, I have seen is to create a custom post type (e.g. products) perhaps as a hierarchical type.

    What an incredible oversight.

The WP team really needs to focus on the taxonomy of WordPress. There's no logical reason for the inflexibility here.

Did you ever find a good way (which works nicely) around this?
