 * Hello gurus,
 * I have just had my site scanned by Alexa and found, to my surprise, that I have
   both HTTP and HTTPS versions of what appears to be every page on my site (www.
   Infocube.com.au).
 * Firstly, from what I understand this causes problems with search engines as both
   protocols are interpreted as separate sites – thus the duplicates being a problem
   for Alexa. So the first question is should I worry about this duplication?
 * Secondly, if the answer is yes (and I assume it will be), which one should I
   go with HTTP or HTTPS (there are no pages on the site that need to be secure)?
 * Third, assuming I want to get rid of the duplicate HTTPS version of each page,
   how do I do this please?
 * Thanks
 * John

 * Hi John,
 * As per the articles: [http://searchengineland.com/google-starts-giving-ranking-boost-secure-httpsssl-sites-199446](http://searchengineland.com/google-starts-giving-ranking-boost-secure-httpsssl-sites-199446)

   and [https://ahrefs.com/blog/http-vs-https-for-seo/](https://ahrefs.com/blog/http-vs-https-for-seo/)
 * It looks like having HTTPS doesn’t really boost your SEO ranking as much. Typically,
   not in all cases, you have an http and https issue because you have a secure
   page on your website that uses relative links instead of absolute. So when you
   go from http to signin on an https, from that page all links point to https page
   versions instead of the http which the visitor came in on.
 * Since you mention that you do not have any pages that need to be secure, I think
   it would be fine to eliminate the HTTPS version.
 * You can review this Google Webmaster Tools article on [how to fix duplicate content issues](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66359?hl=en)
   by using 301 redirects, selecting a preferred domain in GWT, using the canonical
   tag, and more.
 * Hope that helps.

 * If you have a valid ceretificate, use https.
