    Hi,

This might be a couple of dumb questions but are the contents of password-protected posts and pages indexed by spiders?

How secure is the password protection?

    Cheers,
    Gene

In a perfect world, no, spiders shouldn’t be able to index your password protected posts, but it’s not a definite no. The security of the password protection is mainly depending on how secure is your password. I am not sure if WordPress will ban people after a couple failed attempts (like some forums do) so it’s hard to say (brute force attack).

[the passwords are hashed (with salt?) so it would be rather difficult to decrypt the password even if somebody obtained your database, but then again, they HAVE your database, why would they want to have your password to see those posts]

Thanks haochi, I really appreciate the info. I wonder what measures could be taken to prevent someone from obtaining a database (except for a password which couldn’t be guessed, even by brute force attack).

    Cheers,
    Gene
