Support » Fixing WordPress » Drop down menus don't work

Very sorry if I am missing something obvious, I am a complete novice. Followed Tyler Moore’s U-tube video, hosting by Host Gator, WP installed there a few days ago. Testing menus, N=5, I dragged three to the right to be sub-items and saved, but the sub-items appear as parents (as I think they are called). I’ve tried different themes (including Twenty Ten) and both Firefox and Safari browsers, still no drop downs. I suppose I am skipping a step but do not know what else to try.

    Thanks. Jim

  • Themes vary, but usually you have to give your menu a name, then connect the menu to the theme. Look for a setting in somewhere like: Appearance / Customize / Navigation and set the menu to the name of the menu you just made.

If you have skipped this step, the theme might be making up its own menu from the list of pages.

The sub-items are called children. Some themes don’t support children. Most theme home pages have a demo or preview button so you can see if the theme supports children.

Never mind. I did not understand (because I did not read the Documentation) that there is a difference between Pages and Posts. The process to organize the two types of components is different.
