Hello, I’ve done something inadvertently in the last few days. On each variable product page is a drop-down labeled ‘Yarn Weight’. Until the last couple of days, the items in this list were ordered from smallest to largest. Now, they’re ordered alphabetically. Can you help me get these menu items back in the order I want them? I don’t know where to look to do that nor even what terms to use to search.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out! It sounds like the attribute terms for Yarn Weight are set to display in alphabetical order. By default, attribute terms are displayed in the same order as arranged in the backend. To change them back to your custom order (e.g., smallest to largest), you’ll need to adjust the sorting for this attribute. Here’s how:

    1. Go to Products > Attributes in your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Find Yarn Weight and click Configure terms.
    3. Drag and drop the terms into your preferred order. This will set the custom order.

If that does not help, could you please confirm if you have made any recent changes to the site, such as installing new plugins or updates, after which this issue started? That could help us identify the cause.

Also, please share a screenshot of how the attribute terms are arranged in the backend and how they appear on the front end. Currently, I’m not able to access your site.

    Thank you

Hello, thanks for your response. When I first navigated to Products > Attributes, that list was in alphabetical order. I arranged it as I want it, but that didn’t affect the list in the drop-down. They’re also listed alphabetically in Products > Yarn Bases, but I don’t have the option to drab the items on that list to a different order.

Because shipping is so expensive, we only sell to people with a US IP address, so we don’t encourage browsing from outside the states. If you don’t use a VPN, please tell me what country you’re in, I can temporarily allow that country access.

I did hire someone to work on a new plugin when this occurred called, Filter Everything Pro. I’ve already released the contract, so he’s no longer available to help solve this. This first screenshot is the newly rearranged Yarn Bases attributes. The one below it shows what the customer sees on the front end.

    Hi @dyers2,

You can rearrange attributes for a specific product by editing it directly. Go to Products > All Products, select Edit for the product you want to modify, scroll down to the Attributes section, and then drag to reorder the attributes as needed.

Hello, and thank you. All products were affected by whatever changed the order simultaneously. It would take many hours to rearrange each of them individually, so that’s not really a workable solution.

    Hi @dyers2,

You can reorganize WooCommerce attributes globally without having to edit each product individually.

Reordering Attribute Terms (For Variations & Filters)

    1. Navigate to Products > Attributes in your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Locate the attribute you want to reorder and click Configure terms.
    3. Drag and drop the terms to adjust their order.

This should update the attribute order across variable product dropdowns and layered navigation filters.

If the changes don’t reflect on the front end, it’s possible that your site is structured in a way that overrides this setting, or your theme doesn’t support it. In that case, you may need a developer to check your setup and assist with reordering.

By default, adjusting the order through Configure terms should apply the changes across your site.

Hello, thank you again. This response has much of the same directions as the first suggestion. It’s not solving the issue yet.

    Hi @dyers2,

I understand how frustrating this must be. You can either edit each product manually or adjust it from Products > Attributes, but since it’s not working as expected, your theme or website setup might be affecting the ordering.

In this case, I recommend consulting a developer. You can hire one through Codeable.io or WooExperts for further assistance.

Thanks for responding Moses, so this was 1 of 3 strange things happening on the site. I wondered if they might be connected but I didn’t want to just assume that they were, so I pursued each as a separate issue. The one that seems most complex was resolved when we isolated a particular plugin and disabled it. That didn’t solve the 2nd of the 3, but, I do see now that the order of those items in the drop down are back in the right order again. If someone had suggested that it might be a conflict with another unrelated plugin, I’d have thought, yeah, right, that’s it and gone elsewhere to find help. lol Thanks again.
