• I have a problem with WP 3.01 running twenty-ten with no modifications to the theme. I have not “hacked” any of the code.

    The site is http://twogatherbeads.com/

    The MENU for LEARN HOW has a drop down menu consisting of 3 items. If I roll over LEARN HOW, the drop down shows but disappears when scrolling down to access the drop down.

    This occurs when viewed on Firefox 3.6.12 running on MAC OSX 10.4.11. There is not a problem on Safari 4.1.2. I see a small horizontal gap between the main menu element(LEARN HOW) and the drop down when viewing in Firefox. I do not see the gap in Safari. I assume that the drop-down menu gets lost when the cursor rolls over the horizontal gap (loses focus.)

    Need help in resolving this problem!

    thanks in advance for the help!

  • Nope, I can’t recall your problem. Just tried it with FF 3.6.12 and Mac OSX 10.4 and it works fine.

    Works fine with iMac OSX 10.6.5 running Firefox 3.6.12

    Hmmmmm….. Are you seeing the small horizontal gap between the main menu and the first of the drop-down?

    That is clearly where I am losing it.

    On another post, I was told that my style.css file may be corrupted or…..

    So here is a copy of the style.css file for this site in the hopes that someone who knows what thery are doing may spot something.

    Again thanks in advance for help!

    OK, The problem is associated with the Zoom setting that is selected by the user of the browser.

    If a user selects any size LESS than the standard view, that is, zoomed smaller, the drop down menu will seperate, leave a blank horizontal space and the drop-down is lost during the roll to the drop-down area.

    This seems to happen on any WP site, regardless of Theme, when viewed with Firefox. The problem does NOT happen when viewed with Safari.

    So who owns the fix? Firefox or WordPress?

    Whoops, maybe too sweeping a statement that EVERY Theme has this problem. Twenty-Ten and Mistylook both have this problem.

    I tried both Zoom In and Zoom Out in FF (Vista), NO PROBLEM.

    Based on this observation, the problem seems to be with your MAC OSX 10.4.11 not with Twenty Ten, WP, or FF.

    I don’t know much about the Mistylook.

    Whoops, maybe too sweeping a statement that EVERY Theme has this problem. Twenty-Ten and Mistylook both have this problem. If I check some of the themes on page : http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ by clicking on PREVIEW, I find that many are compatible regardless of the view zoom used. Twenty-Ten demonstrates the problem using this preview technique.

    Now, If you do not want to jump around and find sites that exhibit this problem, just stay on THIS page from WordPress and I also see the problem in the menu for this page – try the EXTEND menu item at a zoom out setting at the drop down will become inoperative.

    WordPress problem or Firefox problem??

    How do we get a fix?

    OK, maybe the perfect storm is OSX , Zoomed Firefox and certain WP Themes. Seems like a lot of folks would still be affected and would like a solution.

    If you have doubts about a file in a theme (that you haven’t edited), you can always download a fresh copy.

    I can’t reproduce your problem on my Mac (running OS 10.6.5) in either Safari or Firefox, but my friend had such a problem on a Mac running 10.5, and I couldn’t reproduce his problem, either–tho I eventually made adjustments to my edits that fixed it.

    I have the same problem with the drop down vanishing into the mists of time. My test site is at http://fhc-p.org/wordpress.

    I am Mac 10.6.5, both Safari and Firefox (latest of both) I have also tried it on a Windos machine and the drop down keeps disappearing.

    I went to the twogatherbeads.com site and all there seemed to work just fine.

    I have tried changing relative to absolute (one suggested cure) but to no avail, I have zoomed and shrunk and zoomed again but no luck. I am relatively savvy with Css php etc but am darned if I can figure this out.

    Any help would be really appreciated as the site I am putting together is a not for profit and I am doing it for free.
    Thank you in advance.

    Is ALL the sizing & positioning associated with navigation in pixels, or is some in other units? My problem like this resisted all attempted fixes till I converted everything (around the navbar) to pixels–then vanished. Pixels must add up: bottom of nav bar touches top of dropdown.

    @nomolos You having that problem as you have space between your nav bar and drop down

    In style.css look for this code around line 606

    #access a {
    color:#FEFBF7;
    display:block;
    line-height:30px;
    padding:0 10px;
    text-decoration:none;
    }

    change
    line-height:38px;

    Both marthalee and govpatel thank you so much. Indeed it was the change to 38px that did the trick, my drop down is back from the dark beyond.

    This incredibly rapid response is one reason why development and design advance so quickly, and pleasantly. Thank you both again and if you are in America have a wonderful thanksgiving and if you are elsewhere please have a pint on me.

    You are Welcome Happy Thanks Giving to you as well
