• I am trying to migrate a wordpress theme that I created on my computer to dreamhost. Dreamhost says it cannot be done. How do I change the format of the bitnami_wordpress database to one that conforms to dreamhost.

    Because my client wants Dreamhost.

    Did they want Bitnami?

If you’ve developed a WordPress theme locally, the only thing you should need to do is copy your theme to the live site theme directory.

Dreamhost says it cannot be done.

That’s nonsense. If all we’re really talking about is a theme here, then copy your custom theme directory (just the theme itself, not your entire local WordPress /themes directory) to your desktop and then transfer it to the live sites theme directory using an ftp client or the file manager in your hosts control panel.

Alternatively, you could compress/send the custom theme to a .zip folder, then log into your live site dashboard and install it directly from Appearance > Themes > Add New

    Either should work just fine.

I’m sorry, I meant I have used a themeforest theme–Avada–and have changed created a website for a client on my computer. I used bitnami on a macbook pro. The bitnami_wordpress db file won’t work (according to dreamhost) on dreamhost. This is what they said,

“I’m sorry to say we’re unable to import tables in this manner. If you had a .sql file we could import that for you.”

What do I need to do to make the bitnami_wordpress db file work on dreamhost?

Ahhh.. an entirely different situation altogether then.

what is it in the bitnami_wordpress db that is not working…is there one document that needs to be changed? Is there a way to transform a bitnami_wordpress db file into a .sql file?

was the database backup taken as a phpMyAdmin export? if so it should work; If not can you make a database backup using phpMyAdmin?

It should be more specifically said “We don’t support Bitnami DBs and don’t have anyone around who is an expert enough to figure out how to export/import it into phpMyAdmin or command line SQL.”

Is there somethign Bitnami is doing to the DB that makes it not a normal MySQL DB?

I don’t know what is wrong with the DB…this has just been too much of a hassle so I’ve decided to try to re-create what I did on my computer. Lots of work but I have to move forward with the project. thanks for your efforts.
