[Resolved] Dreamhost 1-click install – how can I update/change my themes?

    Hi Guys.

I used Dreamhost’s 1-click installation to install WordPress to my domain. Now I’m a bit confused – how do I access all of the wpcontent files now? None appear on my computer. Have I done something wrong?

    Thanks for your time.

You don’t need anything installed on your computer to start using WP – the basic stuff is all done using a browser.

This should get you going –

    Specifics about themes:

If you are installing a theme from someplace other than WordPress.ORG (the ones available via the dashboard), you’ll need to set up FTP access to the files on the server.

Thanks for your quick response. My plan is to use a theme from someplace else (ie: themeforest) and work to create a child theme. Is it possible to do this via browser, or will I need to add/change files on my computer and then upload them via FTP (such as FileZilla?) I did check out the Child Theme section of the WordPress Codex and couldn’t quite find my question answered there. Thanks again for your assistance!

No, you can’t create a Child Theme via the Dashboard – so yep, you need to do the file/directory creation on your local computer. Be sure you use a plain text editor to make the new file.
