Support » Fixing WordPress » Drag and Drop Menu/Sub-Menu Hierarchy Just Stopped Working on Both My Sites

  • I have two WP sites that have many pages and navigation is very dependent on my being able to have a menu with sub-menus. The drag and drop feature worked fine for four months, but suddenly it’s gone wonkers. I can usually still drag and drop a page to under the heading it should be under, but the second I save the menu it moves back. Plus now sometimes when I move something, it changes hierarchy and nothing I do will put it back. (i.e., a top menu level page moves into a sub-menu position and no matter where I move it to or move it under it will only stay in second position. Or vice versa.

These sites were working for a few months until this happened out of the blue. My top navigation menu is a mess. It’s three lines of random pages, most of which are supposed to be under one heading.

If it makes a difference, I’m working with pages, not posts.

The only similar problem post I’ve found is two years old and allegedly a browser problem, but I haven’t changed browsers. Has anyone else run into this? Know a fix for it? Have a suggestion? Know a good plugin? I tried using menu plugins once, but my site stopped working and I was told to disable all plugins, and a menu plugin seemed to be a main culprit. I’ve been trying to use the minimum in plugins since then, since the entire purpose of my site can’t operate without one certain plugin and I don’t want any conflicts.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    My site are:

(unfinished, but still there and workable)

FYI on the first of the pages listed, if you check under the menu item “Instruments” you’ll see the drop down menu listing all the instrument pages as it is supposed to. But, I had to remove the Products heading and so you see three lines of product pages in haphazard order.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

How big are these menus? How many menu items?

Already tried deactivating plugins except the one the store runs on, because there’s no purpose to the site without it. I created both themes myself and they worked fine for months, Twenty eleven is not sufficient.
The menus are big. the site totals nearly 50 pages, but I’m told with this latest version of WordPress that should not be a problem.
I’ll try resetting the plugins folder again, but last time that created more problems than it solved. I don’t get FTP and it often takes an hour or more to update one thing using it, so I avoid it whenever possible.
