• Hello,

I have downloaded and installed ’email-before-download’ plugin in my website, and also ‘WordPress Download Monitor’ and ‘Contact form7’ too..

Can I use the link of pdf file from google drive instead of uploading file in wordpress media..?
I tried it by giving the pdf file ‘shareable’ link at ‘Downloads’ and sending it as attachment to email. Unfortunately when downloading the file, in email, it is downloading in Unknown format.. How to resolve this issue ?

    Thanks for helping..

  • First, let me say that it’s always best to get everything working in the normal basic configuration before you try and do anything unusual.

Download Monitor has some concept of remote files (files that it knows about but that don’t exist in the local filesystem). I don’t know if EBD can work with those or not… At one point, EBD supported a “file” tag that you could put in your shortcode and that could be used to point to an external URL. That may still work — I can’t recall if that code is still in there or not. I think it is. So, if you are using that file=someurl type syntax in your shortcode, then it might work. If it doesn’t work, I suggest unchecking (or checking) the Hide/Mask setting in EBD and trying again.

I don’t know if there’s anything special about a Google Drive link to a PDF file. I -think- EBD just does a Location: to the URL specified in the file= tag in your shortcode … if my memory is correct on that, then it’s just the browser & Google Drive that are involved in the file transfer as the browser has been redirected to the URL for the file in Google Drive.
