Support » Localhost Installs » Downloaded WordPress website, put it in htdocs, launched it but DB wont connect

  • I’m just doing this cause I’m trying to change my profile tabs in Ultimate Member, and I have to change the code but can’t find the HTML (its all dynamic) so was trying to use debugger to follow variables through file tree.

I don’t even know which database wordpress is using, or if I need to download it? or can I just connect to it remotely? which file it would be I’d have to write that connection string in. Can I just go without a databse or ?

The database connection is defined in wp-config.php. See wp-config-sample.php for a model. When you install WP locally, it will connect to a local MySQL instance and create a more-or-less empty database.

If you have specific questions about how Ultimate Member works, I recommend asking at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/ultimate-member/#new-post so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.
