Support » Plugin: WordPress Download Manager » Download spam?

  • This is weird. I use the Download Manager plugin to keep an eye on how many times the files that I offer for download are actually downloaded. These files also appear in my Shortstat statistics and now I see that one file that the Download Manager counter has on 307 (way more than the other files) has been downloaded three times per minute for some time today! This started exactly at 8:00 (8 am) and seems to still go on.

What could be the use of this? Take my server down?

  • Looking closer, it seems to come in flows. The 8.00 (am) is not my local time, but that does not really matter. Here’s how it comes:
    7:31 three downloads
    8:00/8:01 three downloads
    8:33 three downloads
    9:05 three downloads
    9:36 three downloads
    10:07 three downloads
    10:42 three downloads
    11:14 three downloads
    11:46 three downloads
    12:15 three downloads

I created a new download pack for the same file because I have a bad feeling about the above. I am still curious if anybody has any thoughts on this though.

ive got the same problem …
download counter blows up and php.ini got a xtreme load πŸ™

any ideas ….? bug or spam ???

    every minute 20-50 downloads πŸ™

I just made a new download pack and set the counter to something credible, problem solved. I wonder what the reason could be for someone to do this.

is this problem solved when you changing the download pack ?

ive got it in the apache log πŸ˜‰

    its China Spam πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

yesterday i turn my website of, today im watching to my apache log πŸ˜‰

and that goes on and on and on πŸ˜‰

this is spam … πŸ˜‰ ….and the problem is not solved when you creating a new package

is this problem solved when you changing the download pack ?

It was for me. The counter acts normally again.

it works for a while but the problem is not solved …
when i ping your download links i think i can blow up your apache πŸ˜‰

At least my ‘download spammer’ did not (try to) find the new download link, so I guess it was some automatic hit (what is more, I have 4 of those and all hits were on just one link).

In any case, you think that the plugin is badly coded? Since the author does not seem to be active on this forum, should we contact him/her directly?

i donΒ΄t think that itΒ΄s a bad plugin or not good coded ….
i think ist not realy thoughtful. there are no safely useful thinks …
its only a good looking download counter with sorted caterories πŸ˜‰
i missed a 1 hit per ip …or next hit in 5 min …or a new generated download link per klick.

there ist many to do πŸ˜‰
i dont think that i need this plugin πŸ˜‰ its almost implemented in WP πŸ˜‰
