Is it possible to maintain two domain using one multi-site installation? If yes, then can anyone please help me out with the exact steps to do it?

I don’t want to have it as a kind of subdomain. I mean to two different domains. Is that possible. I know it’s kind of dumb question.

With the WP MU Domain Mapping plugin you can make each blog site have a different domain:
site1 -> http://www.domain1.com
site2 -> http://www.domain2.com
site3 -> http://www.domain3.com

Note this configuration will have problems with ssl/https. You need some special configuration/certificate to handle that case.
