dot com vs dot org questions

Hello, I recently stumbled onto the wordpress “system.” I admit that I like the feel far better than the previous blogging system I was using. I’m considering using the dot org software (hosting and running on my own), but I have a question or two.

I notice on the theme I’ve chosen, I’m having difficulty displaying banners or buttons (such as creative commons, for example). If I switch to the dot org and host myself, will I have the flexability to implement things such as displaying the creative commons logo and other buttons/banners of my choosing?
