Support » Plugin: Product Visibility by User Role for WooCommerce » Much Better Now After Revisions!

  • After some back & forth with the developer I think we have it where it needs to be. Works great right out of the box. This is super important to us because we have certain members that try and buy discounted items at wholesale and that’s not really good. So we needed to hide those products from specific users and it works beautifully!

    Thanks Tom

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear you are having troubles with plugin. First of all – you are correct, documentation needs to be (re)written, it always has been my weak side. Sorry for that – will do it as soon as possible.

Now regarding the options – there are two places where plugin options are located. First of all – in “WooCommerce > Settings > Product Visibility by User Role” you can set how you want products to be hidden (hide in shop and search results and/or make non-purchasable and/or hide completely). It’s more or less explained in options descriptions there.

Now after you choose how you want products to be hidden, you need to open some products edit page and there you need to locate “Product Visibility by User Role” meta box. In this meta box you can set for which user roles the product should be visible (for all not selected roles product will be hidden). You can select multiple roles by holding control key. If no roles are selected (this is the default state) – product is visible for all roles. The only difference with premium version is that in premium you can also set for which user roles product should be hidden (instead of visible). Basically you can achieve same results with free version as with premium, it’s just may be more convenient for someone to set “invisible” roles instead of “visible”.

I’ve also just retested the plugin (free version) – and it all seems to be working fine on my server. If you wish you can contact me on tom@wpcodefactory.com, I’ll be more than happy to look into it.

    Best regards,
    Tom

I’ve just re-read your review and regarding interface – now as you pointed that out – I’m going to make some changes as soon as possible (hopefully tomorrow). As I understand main issue is that you have to set visibility for each product separately, and not for products in bulk, is that correct?

    Best regards,
    Tom

Hi Tom, I know how to use it. I just hate seeing plugins without instructions for users who don’t know as much as say ME. I don’t know how you go the plugin to sit on top of the WP Editor, that may be great for some but as a long time WP coder I’d prefer it down below or to the side where I dragged it now. It’s not great there either but it’s the lesser of two evils.

Invisible roles people will have to pay. I’m assuming that due to the grayed out boxes. Either way people should know that a Pro Version is available at cost and what those costs get them. That’s not declared on here and only until after you’ve downloaded the plugin will you find that out. Declare that here on WP please.

If you need instructions written out and with screenshots I’d be more than happy to help contribute to them. I speak 7 languages and can translate in any one of them as well.

    Hi @stefsternyc,

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve just released new version 1.1.0.

    1. As suggested, I’ve moved meta box on product edit page to side and lowered its priority, so it would appear closer to the bottom of the page. Also I replaced standard multiselect box with enhanced, so now it takes less space and just looks better.

    2. Though I misunderstood you in first place, from your initial feedback I got the idea, that setting user roles visibility for products in bulk would be useful. So now I’ve added “Bulk Settings” section to “WooCommerce > Settings > Product Visibility by User Role > Bulk Settings”. There it’s possible to set which products (in bulk), product categories or tags are visible or invisible to certain role. This part went to Pro version, however I’ve moved previously Pro feature – setting “invisible” user roles on per product basis – to free version.

    3. I’ve updated the plugin’s description on wp.org and added information about free and Pro plugins differences. I’ve also updated the description on https://wpcodefactory.com/item/product-visibility-by-user-role-for-woocommerce/ and added “Free vs Pro” table there.

    Would appreciate any feedback.

Regarding you contribution – of course I’ll be more than happy. And in v1.1.0 I’ve generated and included POT file for translations.

    Best regards,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,

The per product UI is way better. Ideal in fact. The Bulk portion you added, that’s probably overkill. Bulk is definitely something someone with lots of products needs but there has to be an easier way than constantly scrolling down. I’ll put my thinking cap on.

Lastly you need to shorten the TAB title, that’s just too long inside WooCommerce Settings. If you look yours is the only one that stretches almost a third of the header. Leave it at “Product Visibility” that’s better than “Product Visibility By User Role”

Let you know if anything else. Thanks.

Regarding shorter tab title – just did it in our development version.

Regarding “… constantly scrolling down…” in bulk section – yes, I also had a feeling that it’s not a perfect solution. I have two ideas, please let me know what you think:

    1. add “Save changes” button for each role, so user won’t have to scroll all the way to the bottom to save settings, or
    2. make subsections for each role in “Bulk Settings” section.

    Tom

    Title: Awesome. Way to go.

    1. Not sure right now. I wanted to look at Woo’s Bulk ability and see if you had a way of adding it there. Bulk measures are always the hardest. Especially when someone has 10k products.

    Hi @stefsternyc,

I’ve just released new version 1.1.1.

    1. I’ve changed meta box title. I went with “Visibility by user” – it’s not what you suggested, but still shorter. Also I’ve updated descriptions inside the meta box so it all looks cleaner now.

    2. Not a final solution – but I’ve added “Save all changes” buttons to each user role in “Bulk Settings” section, so user don’t have to scroll all the way to the bottom to save changes. It’s not perfect, but still more convenient for the user. Will be thinking more about this…

As usual – any feedback is highly appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Tom

We updated but your title is unnecessarily too long. So think about how bad it looks in mobile. I’m not telling you you have to, I’m just saying you SHOULD shorten it to Product Visibility. It just clashes with all of Woo’s tabs. I personally wouldn’t name something in the backend that long.

I think with the bulk and what not you’ve done great there. Everything else has improved dramatically. Well done.

    Hi @stefsternyc,

I’ve just released new version 1.1.2.

    1. As suggested, I’ve changed meta box title to “Product visibility”.

    2. In “Bulk Settings” section I’ve added additional subsections for each user role.

Please let me know what you think.

    Best regards,
    Tom

🙂 I finally understood why you said it’s still too long after I changed it last time to “Visibility by user” – I was changing the title of meta box on product’s edit page, but not the settings tab title. Yes, you are correct – this tab title is definetely too long – will release new fixed version in next 24 hours. And what about changes in “Bulk Settings” section – did you have time to check it?

    Best regards,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Thanks man. Look forward to that. Yes, I looked at the Bulk side. It looks good. The save buttons etc, not really needed for us but for someone that has a ton of products I could see it.

I think you have it the easiest way I can think of right now.

Oh and just to let you know someone wrote 3 reviews just now and so I think it’s working well again. So that’s good. We had to delete our staging site as to not confuse shoppers.

    Hi @stefsternyc,

I’ve just released new version 1.1.3. It all should be ok now. And thanks for all your feedback.

    Best regards,
    Tom
