    You can disable Comments on a Post or Page, thanks to the Discussion module. Go to Pages > All Pages in your dashboard, and click on the Page you want to edit.

    You can then disable comments by unchecking the option in the Discussion module, at the bottom of the page:

    If you do not see the Discussions module, you will have to enable it in your Screen Options (the small tab in the top right corner of your dashboard).

    There ought to be a setting that would default to placing a comment box on all posts, but not on any pages.

    WordPress doesn’t include such option, but I like the idea. You should propose your idea, and maybe submit a patch here:
