According to the destination settings, if a site is discoverable by Google search then a podcast from said site will be in the Google Podcasts directory.

Google Podcasts directory is available through Google search, Google Home smart speakers, and the new Google Podcasts app for Android. As long as your podcast website is discoverable by Google search, your podcast will be included in this directory.

Is there a way to prevent this so any podcast feed generated on the site are NOT discoverable? What would be the most effective to accomplish this?

Go to PowerPress >> Settings, Advanced Mode >> Feeds tab and make sure the Feed Discovery box is unchecked.

You can also look up how to use the robots.txt file on your website to block search engines on your site.

    Thanks!

We already updated the robots.txt to block the feeds from getting indexed but wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything else we weren’t missing. Appreciate the help!

Hi there, I have similar if not slightly different question. I would like my podcast to be password protected on my website, yet discoverable via Itunes, is this possible?

@izzjarv: Apple Podcasts/iTunes does not support password-protected feeds being listed in its directory.

Apple’s podcast-consumption apps will support password-protected feeds that are manually added by users. But there’s no way to have a password-protected feed in Apple’s directory.

Thanks Shawn, so just to be clear – if I created a password protected page on my wordpress site where the podcast lives, Itunes could still pick up the feed and it would be available on Itunes without a password.

Having only one password-protected page on your site shouldn’t have any impact on a non-protected podcast feed.
