Support » Plugin: Check and Enable GZIP compression » Don't use this plugin, it will break your site

  • I installed this plugin this evening. After I activated and selected “Enable GZIP compression”, then the disaster came! My site completely down, I even can’t login to WordPress! I called my hosting customer support, and it took them at least half an hour try to find the problem – but they can’t even figure out why this happened! So I have to restore my backup, unfortunately I forgot the backup my site since two month ago. Now my site is back, but it is two months old, I lost all of my updates. I am very unhappy with this plugin, please stay away from it if you don’t want trouble!

    Hi Uckydogie,

I’m sorry to hear that your site was down because of this plugin. Did you try to use the preview function? Furthermore, I would have been happy to help you out to fix the website for you, because I probably know what the problem would have been. Just post a support ticket the next time.

Thank you for getting back to me. Yes, I used the preview function, everything worked in preview mode. Then I did the next step, and then I got 500 Internal server error message, and my site lost (I even can’t use WordPress.). I am not a mean person, I don’t usually leave bad review for products I have used. But this really made me very sad, because I couldn’t get my site back even with the help of Godaddy customer representative, and I couldn’t wait to have a down site for too long to wait for a support ticket response. The only choice I have at that time is to restore from my backup. But the worse thing is that I forgot to backup my site for more than two months, and now I have to update page by page to keep my site up to date.

Thanks for the quick reply. No hard feelings. You could have fixed the problem by removing the .htaccess file. It probably got corrupted by our plugin. We’re sorry about that. Do you have a copy of the broken site? I would be happy to restore it for you.
