• I’m a hobbyist musician while also being a beginner in webdesign. So far I could update the theme I use for Gutenberg features. Gutenberg is… Well, appropriated for wysiwyg design… But for a musician like me, it’s garbage.

For the simple and only reason that MediaElements.js has been removed. Or just being not used.

    So:
    – The new audio players looks like default html audio players which can look terrible.
    – These audio players have a download button that forces me to disable it by using pure html code. This should never happen.
    – No playlist support at all anymore. Now I must use shortcodes (like [playlist ids=""] and all) to manage my playlist and this way is not easy and intuitive at all.

Now I just hope there will be plugins to fix these problems. MediaElements.js should have never been ditched.

  • Hello! It is true that the audio block currently uses the browser’s default audio player, and I do see that there are open requests to improve this (e.g., add a playlist). I’ve also noted your feedback to share with the Gutenberg team.

Since it’s been a few months since you posted this, I’m curious if you’ve continued to use the editor in more recent releases, and if you’re running into any problems?

It would be great if you could share details about any issues you are currently running into so that it can be improved upon. You can share that here so we can pass feedback on to the Gutenberg team. Or, if you use GitHub, you can log an issue at: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues.

    Thank you!
