Support » Plugin: WP Activity Log » Don't use it unless you are planning to pay for extensions

  • This plugin keeps track of everything and then gives a one table with zero options view. So.. unless you are planning to pay for their add-ons, don’t use it. It’s almost useless to have so much data and so little data management tools.

    Hello Dan,

Can you please explain what do you mean by “zero options view”? The free version of the plugin is an audit log, and its purpose is to keep a log of all the changes that are happening on your WordPress.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

No way to search, filter, group, or order data. It’s not enough to throw a bunch of data at the user, if you don’t give the user the ability to do anything useful with it. If there was at least an option to export the data, then I could do all operations needed in some other software like Excel.

That’s why I think this plugin is not useful if you don’t buy the extensions.

I have been trying to look at modified content and new published content in the last 3 months. It took me 4 hours to find everything. Because I have to look through 50 pages of logs with 50 items each. I ended up writing my own loop to look through modified data.

    Hello Dan,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Please note that you can order data by date, username and even Alert ID. So in your case, you could have easily done the following:

    1. Sort the audit log by Alert IDs.

    2. Browse through the pages till you find all Alerts with ID 2065 (refer to this URL for a list of all Alerts:

    3. Find the alert you were looking by only browsing through the alerts with such ID.

Hence the plugin is not useless. The plugin is more than useful for small to medium websites, which do not have a lot of activity. Though of course if you have a large website and you need more automation to access the valuable data the plugin is providing you with, you have to pay, similar to all other freemium plugins.

While I trust the above gives you a better overview of the plugin’s functionality, do not hesitate to get in touch with us on should you have any further queries.
