I am using wordpress for a study where we can’t collect or store personally identifying information (aka IP address). Is there a way to prevent wordpress from collecting the IP address or a way to make it so all of the IP addresses point to the same address (not the actual address of the poster)? If the IP address is done at the time of registration will it change when a comment is posted or will it stay static? For example, we could have participants register at the site, which would mean the IP address isn’t connected to their home computer.
You can sanitize the IPs in the comments table, but that requires you to tinker in SQL, and it needs to be done by comment and not by registration (which makes sense, as registered users can comment from different IPs).
