    Hi,
I building a website in Avada theme and trying to get your plugin to pick up portfolios. I want to do it by category but doesn’t work not even with ID for the category. I need to put in the ID’s of every portfolio I want in the different widgets. It says for category that you just put the different categories seperated by + but I can’t even get one. I think maybe for the portfolio categories in avada you need to use something else (I have tried to add with the portfolio slugs in different ways but nothing happens), can you please tell me how I can do it?

    Thanks,
    Annika

    Hi @anweb,
I never used the Avada theme, but in my opinion I think that the posts for the Portfolio section are a custom post type. Could you verify if I’m right?

If I’m right, you shouldn’t use the categories in order to get the Portfolio’s posts in the widget, but instead you should use the post type dropdown menu.

    Let me know, please.

    Hi,
Sorry not to answer you but for some reason I don’t get an email when you reply even if I checked the box for that.

Anyway I have done that, I chose portfolio in the dropdown list and then I tried to write in “Get posts with these categories” the category I want it to pick up but it doesn’t work only if I write the ID of the portfolios I want it to pick up.

I’m not 100% sure about if the portfolio is a custom post type but I think so.

If it’s possible I could give you login to the wp-admin to have a look?

    I put a screenshot here https://prnt.sc/v0ama2

    Thanks,

    Annika,
Have you tried choosing only “Portfolio” in the “Post Type” dropdown, leaving all other fields blank? The widget should display the latest Portfolio posts. You can try a brand new widget, just in case. Verify this before continuing.

Then, if you want to get some Portfolio posts that have a custom taxonomy, you cannot use the “Get posts with these categories” field, but the dedicated “Custom taxonomy query” panel under “Getting posts” panel.

In other words, a Custom Post Type (=CPT) can make use of the standard WordPress categories and tags, but also can have its own custom taxonomies. If the CPT uses the standard categories and tags, you can use also the “Get posts with these categories” and “Get posts with these tags” fields; but if the CPT uses a custom taxonomy, you cannot use those fields but instead you must use the “Custom taxonomy query” panel.

    Let me know, please.

    Hi again,
As I told you it works if I choose portfolio (I named it Utbildningar, Swedish) and also if I put the ID for the portfolios I want to show it works fine, see example on this link (password to site under construction: [password removed by moderator])
    http://new.sverigehalsan.se/ann-christin-wesser-ingels/

I tried now what you suggest but I maybe do something wrong and not really understand how to fill in the widget so could you please tell me exact what I shall do or if your could get the login to wp-admin to have a look?

Here is some info about the category I want in this case
    Category link
    http://new.sverigehalsan.se/wp-admin/term.php?taxonomy=portfolio_category&tag_ID=13&post_type=avada_portfolio&wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2Fedit-tags.php%3Ftaxonomy%3Dportfolio_category%26post_type%3Davada_portfolio

    ID13

Name: Psykoterapi which is also the slug

    Thanks,
    Annika

@anweb I have removed your password. Please, never ever post any passwords in public places, like this forum. There are search engines and others scanning these forums all the time.
Change that password immediately, and to be on the safe side, you should carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures and start backing up your site.

It’s not a problem with this password, it’s not really to access the page

    Hi Annika,
    let’s go step by step.

First of all, create a brand new widget for testing. Change only the Post Type field, choosing Portfolio. Save the widget. Tell me if in the frontend you see the posts from Portfolio.

I have done that and it work

Ok. Now I think you want to display a portion of those Portoflio posts, for example posts with a certain category (a WordPress standard taxonomy) or a certain custom taxonomy, right?

If the taxonomy is a category, you will use the field “Get posts with these categories”.

If, on the contrary, the taxonomy is a custom taxonomy, you will use the “Custom taxonomy query” panel.

At this point you have all the information to get the posts you want.

Anyway, let’s see if I can help you guessing the configuration.
    Try this configuration:

    Also use this:

I could have chosen the wrong names, so please check them.
